PhD in Health Sciences

The MSBM PhD program in Health Sciences comprises 180 ECTS credits and is designed to provide extensive knowledge, advanced research capabilities, and analytical skills to healthcare professionals, practitioners, researchers, and leaders. These competencies are essential for addressing complex health-related challenges, improving patient outcomes, and strengthening healthcare systems. Unlike master's degree programs, the PhD emphasizes the practical application of theories to real-world health issues, encouraging evidence-based decision-making and innovation. As part of this transformative learning process, students are expected to enhance their research expertise, enabling them to approach healthcare scenarios from a critical and multidisciplinary perspective, with a strong focus on applying research methodologies to improve public health, clinical practice, and healthcare sustainability.

The program is offered as a flexible yet rigorous online course, allowing students to progress at their own pace. Depending on the selected pathway (Coursework or Research), the duration may vary. Most students are expected to complete the program within three years, although the research pathway may facilitate a faster completion.

The Azteca PhD in Health Sciences emphasizes applied research, enabling healthcare professionals, policymakers, and practitioners to implement their learning in real-time within clinical, community, or organizational settings. The program aims to equip students with comprehensive knowledge across key areas of health sciences, while also strengthening essential skills such as research design, academic writing, data analysis, critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and healthcare leadership.

After completing the program, students will be able to:

  • Apply advanced research methodologies to analyze health-related issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Conduct both primary and secondary research to better understand public health and clinical challenges.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of health science theories, models, and practices to predict outcomes and improve healthcare delivery.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills within clinical, academic, and professional healthcare environments.
  • Clearly articulate complex health concepts, research findings, and intervention strategies.
  • Develop high-level expertise in producing research reports involving data collection, analysis, interpretation, and effective data visualization.
  • Engage in academic and professional research that may lead to publications in peer-reviewed health and medical journals.
  • Exhibit advanced proficiency in research design, study implementation, and thesis development as a core requirement for the doctoral qualification.
